The Finnish Defence Forces Photograph Archive stores and collects the photographic material of the Finnish Defence Forces and offers it to its customers. The archive is made up of material handed over by Defence Forces’ units and establishments, and the donations of private individuals.
The timeframe of the images reaches from the Grand Duchy era Army in the late 1800s to the mid-2000s. Collections include the Finnish Civil War, the Finnish Defence Forces in the 1920s and 1930s, the Civil Guards, aerial photos from the 1920s and 1930s, the Winter War and the Continuation War, and then the post-World War II period as one entity.
Over 160,000 photos from the World War II era are available at www.sa-kuva.fi. The photos are free to use privately or for publications. When you publish a photograph from the archive, please mention "SA-kuva". This means "wartime photograph" in Finnish.
