Collections

Collections form the basis of our museums. They provide the material for our current and future exhibitions, publications and studies.

The Military Museum collects and stores objects and images related to Finland's military and weapons' history and to the different stages of the Defence Forces. The Military Museum's collections also include objects used by our enemies and allies during Finland's wars in Finland and on the front. The Military Museum's collections are big compared to that of other museums; they include hundreds of thousands of objects and photographs. The collections span from the 19th century to the current day.

Document archive in the National Archives

The Military Museum does not systematically collect or store Finnish Defence Forces or wartime documents. These are mainly to be found in the National Archives. If, for instance, you want to find out more about your relatives during Finland's previous wars, please contact the National Archives.
